Vulcan Venture level 1 is probably my favourite isolated single level of any shootemup. Last edited by ninelivecat on Tue 6:31 am edited 3 times in total The Asian arcade release lacks the beginner mode and retrospective introduction sequence, but reduces the difficulty overall. At the end of the third level, the game ends immediately and bids the player to try the game again at the normal difficulty. (The arcade version did not provide a way to continue the game upon losing all lives, and did not even include an operator-selectable "allow continue" option.) The Japanese version of the game contains a 'beginner mode' that allows the player to venture through the first three levels at a much easier difficulty. The game is known by fans as being considerably more difficult than its predecessors, so much so that it prompted Konami to pull it from arcades rather quickly. It's Gradius 3 that I hate not Gradius or Gradius 2 Vulcan Venture and it looks like I'm not the only one check this out from Wiki Gradius 3 (I Knew Konami where always quality and there was something wrong with this one) Perseverance my friend, I am rubbish at Gradius and Vulcan Venture but got quite far with both in the old days of Sparcade and my company P133mhz Pentium laptop and a few choice roms. It's very easy to die and once you die that's basically all your weapons gone and game over.I never liked it as an arcade game and actually prefered Konami Thundercross which came out around the same time. It's a shame because Gradius 3 had some wonderfull graphics notably the second bubble stage.I notice that the SNES version of Gradius 3 has noticably less sprite traffic on the first level which makes me wonder if Konami had realised their error and changed it on the console ? The other thing I didn't understand was allowing for different weapon and shield settings. To me that seemed like a totally unnecessary complication.
GRADIUS 2 SPRITES FULL
Gradius/Nemesis,Salamander/Lifeforce and Gradius 2/Vulcan Venture where all great games that had the right degree of difficulty setting for a novice to draw them in and keep them playing up to expert but IMHO Gradius 3 was just way too difficult.I don't understand what Konami where thinking when they designed Gradius 3 but it appears to me that the first level is just cluttered full of enemy sprites. It's like level 5 of Gradius 1 only in a very narrow tunnel.
